NEWSLETTER Winter 2011
The Committee and Musical Director wish to extend Seasonal Greetings to all members and friends of the orchestra. We have had a very successful musical year and appreciate the hard work undertaken, and the support given, by so many people. |
Thanks
Many thanks to Calum Zuckert, Dylan Huw Thomas and Svein Oskar Smogeli from Durham University who deputised for Ray Farr on separate occasions, when conducting engagements elsewhere meant that Ray could not be with us on Wednesday evenings. |
Thanks and appreciation
To Sunderland City Council, for generously donating funding to the orchestra through the Community Chest. The money is for one years rent for our rehearsal premises, to purchase some new music stands and for folio bags for music storage.
To the Sir James Knott Trust for funding to purchase music.

Last Night of the Proms Concert October 2011
Excellent audience More than 150 present. The spirit of the occasion was well captured, with more than fifty Union Flags being waved during the second half. There was much enthusiastic singing from the audience with the traditional songs, ably led by our guest soloist, Rachel Orr. |
Christmas Concert December 2011
Another very well attended concert. Guest singers were the 40 strong Sunderland Monkwearmouth Songsters of the Salvation Army. The singing was superb, and the concert finished with a wonderful climax the Songsters and the orchestra performing together in The Hallelujah Chorus. |
